Hey,
I've been lurking quite a bit. I have a f/g dashboard and I'm just wondering about putting in some din slots into the center console of it, one to house a deck and one for a storage space. the dash board is almost finished I'd like to know how to put a radio in it before I move on though. Let me know how mounting this stuff works, thanks guys

there's no real best way to do it, as every application deserves a different install method.. for your dash, I'd go an buy a cheap dash kit and mold it into the fiberglass dash from behind and cut out the opening. that way you have a place to secure the cage and mount the HU to, rather than using MDF or something to make a mount.

I think a cool idea for that would be to extend the faceplate of ur deck to somewhere like ur sunvisor by soldering ribbon cable onto the contacts, then just cut an opening in ur dash big enough for a cd, and mount the cdplayer behind it. And get creative with the pocket, think of something kewl like a breadbox opening or something

I am not sure if I want to put that much work into it, I'm not great with car audio so if I can just get it mounted then I'm set. I dont have a cage for my alpine head unit so I might just go to the junk yard and find one, make a cut out for the radio and then either glass or bolt the cage straight to the dash board the whole dash comes out in about 5 minutes so changing it wouldn't be a problem. anyways I've done some touch ups to the instrument panel take a look.

Why are you going to this kind of work if not for audio?

I just wanted the dashboard to look cool, the stock rx7 dash is ugly. plus I took out the heater core and all the vents and stuff because this is pretty much a bare bones race car. I dunno it is just a project car that I'm trying to have some fun with and learn lots of stuff.
