Hi,
posted up a little while ago with this. now i have photos. i tried to plug a sirius unit into the rear rca jacks on this head unit. now the display/tuner works fine except no noise (tiny amount of sound out of one rear speaker at max volume)

i have pulled it out. the external fuse looks good. no internal fuse. no wiring issues i can see. only thing odd is that someone has spliced a piece of speaker wire into a blue wire coming out of the rear harness very amateur job (scotch tape as insulator). that wire was not hooked up to anything. you can see it in the first photo attached.

i tried grounding the speaker wire (tranlucent blue wire in middle of second photo spliced to dark blue wire) and it made no difference

any suggestions?

ok, some progress made

i got all 4 speakers working very quietly at max volume. no idea how

the loose blue wire mentioned above kills the sound if it touches the ground or the stereo chassis and you have to turn the ignition off and on to get the quiet sound back

the blue wire that this loose wire is spliced off is labelled "power antenna". my vehicle has a manual power antenna working off a dash switch up/down control and it has never been auto connected to the radio as long as I have owned it, but I assume the previous owner had it hooked up at some point

the radio chassis is labelled negative ground.

update

i popped the speakers with a 1.5 battery to verify the factory amps are bypassed. they are.

i have gone over the harness carefully. there does not seem to be any harness wiring problem. I think that somehow i have either fried it or switched it into a no amp output mode (pre-amp out only??). cannot find any switch on it or control on the panel.

would a deck like this have a diagnostic/program mode you can switch into by pressing a combo of dash controls? there is no reset button anywhere.

The blue wire is your Remote turn on or power antenna wire, make sure it is insulated. Make sure your stereo is well grounded (black wire) to clean metal. Checkout the clarion site for a user manual to see if there is a pre-amp only setting or a mute.

update: by luck found and bought the identical head unit off craigslist for $50. plugged it into the existing harness and it worked fine. can't figure out what i did to the old one but the install directions with the new one indicate the line in function only works when using a clarion equalizer rerouted back into the head unit. i am thinking somehow it thinks it is in that mode and is waiting for a line in signal from the EQ to amplify. the clarion site does not have any manuals going back that far and i can't find any way to reset the thing.

anyway, $50 is cheaper than a repair and the new old unit doesn't have a scratched face plate or burned out back lights so i'll call it good.
