K, so im parking my car and all of a sudden thick thick smoke starts billowing out of my steering column and later i noticed it in my trunk too. turned off teh car and left it alone for awhile.... opened up the dash to find this:
i left the pics big so it'd be easy to see...

the wire looks like that for as far as i can see... anyways.. i figured theres no point in putting the dash back together if im gunna have to gut it to get that wire out now anyway and replace it... so i go to open my trunk, only to have a cloud of smelly plastic smoke burst out. not as thick mind you. anyways.. heres whhat i saw:

-need to replace this asap i think.. what should i replace it with? <-thats key! i wanna do this tonite so im gud tommorrow..
in case u guys were wondering... the amp is a fusion 1211d, wiring is a 4gauge stinger kit, stock HU, stinger LOC, in an 07 civic.

wow thats crazy. did it short somewhere?

id put a fuse on it next time. maybe it will blow the fuse instead of burning up the wire.

the wire must have shorted...

the fuse on the ignition wire you tapped into is probably about 30-40amps.... obviously the wire you shorted couldn't handle the current that fuse let pass without burning up.... next time add a 5 or 10 amp fuse......

edit:

where you tap in, lol duh...

this is where the installers could jump in and say pay us or have your car smell like smoke..... or worse yet feel pretty damn stupid cause you just wrote off your brand new vehicle and all ur equipment.... btw, aside from setting your car on fire the best ever is when you set off airbags... lol
