| you need the adaptor and door chime modules. Don't cheap out and go without chimes.
You'll lock your keys in the car with the lights on and forget to put your seat belt on.
Chimes are there for a reason. And you can't sell it without chimes.
But thats ok, because your keys will be locked inside and the battery will be dead, so no one would buy it anyway.
My adaptor was 159.95 US. 25.00 U.S. shipping and then 47.00 canadian tax & customs. Then i needed relays, separate speakers for chimes and onstar, another module for steering wheel controls.
And i'm really happy with it.

Reason i ask is i would like to know if the airbags performed properly. These safety measures are in place for many reasons. I sur would hate to be the guy who had no warranty on a blown engine because he did not hear the warning indicator telling him his oil was low or that his car was overheating and then i would really hate to be the stereo shop who foots the bill for buddies new engine because some hack installer said he didn't need the data retention module. Thats just my two cents. |

| gotta love the quick turn to bash futuresop and best buy yet again.... if a customer gets upset when they are told what they need, i simply explain why we require them to have it for our installs, and also why they should use it...u can use a standard wire harness for the car but i wont touch it, ur big kids if u wanna take the chance go for it but we simply dont touch it not only for safety reasons but for warranty reasons...."hey installer after u put my deck in my chimes dont work and so and so forth...fix it..." i also know that all the respectable shops in our valley also use these harnesses', small business respected installers and shops....rob for instance i do belive uses them as well... |

| Thats exactly what I meant in my first post. Who knows what kind of systems GM decided to run through the deck. Do you really wanna chance random sh*t happening, like my customers horn staying on until he plugged the adapter back in? Sure, you can probably get around it, but most installers including me would probably not do it.

| The only GM vehicles that you should worry about removing the radio are ones that us GMLAN (modules are in a daisy chain). A Sunfire uses a low speed class 2 system, so removing the radio doesn't affect other modules. |

| Again guys, here is the real ramifications from a dealer standpoint. IT IS ILLEGAL TO REMOVE A SAFETY DEVICE FROM A VEHICLE. END OF STORY. The chime module is classified as a safety device by Transport Canada. Attached to the chime module is your seatbelt reminder chimes. Now you are all old enough to know that it is illegal to drive without your seatbelts on. The reminder is there to ensure it.
Do it right and play safe, do it wrong and well, if there are consequences to be paid, it is on your shoulders alone. Just because someone on a forum says that "oh yeah, all you need is the basic harness and you only lose the chimes" does not make it the PROPER and LEGAL requirement for use in a vehicle. Poll all the guys asking this question, no offence intended, but they are the one that are trying to save a buck instead of using the proper parts for the application.
