im trying to install a new stereo in my gf jetta i have everything hook up but im having an issue with the power.. i can either get it to have power all the time(with out keys or ignition on) or none.. i was using a guide and it said to use a yellow and red wire from the jetta to the red stereo ignition wire and a thing red and white one for the yellow stereo wire.. but there is no yellow and red wire.. theres a tan and red one... there are 3 wires that seem to be left out.. and only 2 wires left out on my deck.. the VW has 2 thick red and white ones and a tan and red one.. no matter what way i put the yellow and the red ones from the deck it will only give me constant power or none at all.. im assuming the 2 thik red ones are 1 for the constant power and the other for the ampt antenna, and the tan and red one for the ignitions power.. im no it must be something simple or the diagram i have is wrong but i cant figure it out and its going on 3 days now.. any help would be great,.

i had the same porblem when doing an install on a 01 jetta just grab a test light and hook it up 2 the different wires and see what one is the ignition wire if there isn't one there maybe a fuse is blow check the fuses if it still don't find one then just run a wire from another source for it i'd just say if you run another wire make sure you lable it just 2 make sure down the road you come across it and rip it out thinking it was used for nothing
