We use 12 volt ones here at the shop. 30 watt ones i believe?! anyway, please post which ones, and where you get them. Were looking to stay using the 12 volt irons, but cannot find where to get the GOOD ones

We use the gun style ones for installs, you can find them at any Home Depot or Canadian Tire.

What about Butane?
I have a little Bernz-O-Matic Butane that is great. It doesn't have a wattage rating, but from my experience it produces enough heat to fall into 60-80 watt category.

The reasons why I love butane:
- 100% portable - no limitations
- No cords - which can be annoying for soldering in tricky places
- Tips that can be easily replaced
- Possibility to convert to a torch for larger projects - I've used the torch to make an 8 awg connection.

I paid $30 for mine 4 years ago and its still going strong. The butane canisters only cost a couple of bucks and as a hobbiest, I only use one can a year. I assume a professional installer would probably use a can every couple of months.
