Attenuating RCA Outputs

Just did an Alpine IVA-D100 DVD deck, and you'd think for $1399 they'd have a high pass filter, but whatever!
Seems that when I get the volume up the deck's amp clips well before the sub output.
The gains are pinned on the sub amp, and still not enough.
So...thinking that a set of F-Mod high-pass filters between the deck and amp are in order, but I'd like to attenuate the front and rear outputs a bit as well.
Can I add a resistor to the RCA leads?
The deck's pre-out is 2.0V @ 10k.

Sounds like it could use an line-amp for the sub out.

^ That would be easiest. Just pick up a line driver for the sub out.

I thought of that, but figured since the deck's amp is seperate anyways, it would be cheap and easy to drop the outputs a few dB. Too bad there's no gain control on it.
If we have to start spending, might as well buy the 5.1 processor.

Uhm, a high-pass filter would do nothing to solve your problem. HPF filters out frequencies. It doesn't attenuate the overall signal.

What amp and sub are you running? Was the sub louder with your previous deck? If so, +1 for the line driver.

Another option would be to use an external amp for your main speakers instead of deck power. This would facilitate balancing the mains versus the sub, and would provide better overall SQ to boot.

Think I'll just try the F-mod first. The 18 watts of the deck should be fine if i get the lows out, and the F-mods cut the signal by 3dB, so should be OK.
Just a poor design IMO on the outputs from a consumer's point of view.
Certainly help to make the 5.1 processor sound worth the investment after tho. "It's SO much clearer now" lol.

That pulse feedback screen is kinda kewl. Wonder how they do that?
