Does it happen to be an MTX amp? I've had a couple with the same symptoms before the power supply in them gave out. Dunno what caused it...age maybe?

When my subs did that it was a blown fuse under the hood, did ya check that ?..

turn down your gain, i had the same problem. mine would thump like that and i noticed my amp was really hot.
