wiring up an amplifier with internal fan... switched 12v?

hey all.. just getting some of the final small things together to start my budget system install in the near future..

my first question is: i have an old Pioneer GM-H200 i want to use. it has an internal fan where there is a small 2 wire harness that plugs in (1 blue for remote, 1 red for fan) i am curious how to get power to the red wire. i heard someone mention "switched 12v source" but i am not sure exactly where to locate a switched 12v source on a '92 Explorer. do they just mean run it from the fuse panel? i really don't want to burn my rig to the ground so i figure i'd ask here first

and my final question: i am running 4ga power wire from the batt to the trunk, splitting into (2) 8ga for the dual inputs on my amplifier.. my distro block only has 1 4ga in and 2 8ga out. i want to add an AudioControl 2XS, could i run an 18ga power wire off the same distro block by tapping into one of the 8ga inputs by tying it in with one of the 8ga wires, or do i need a different distro block with 3 outputs? i read in the 2XS manual that it needs a 1amp fuse on the power wire so i am checking around for 1amp fuses at the moment as well.

if anyone can point me in the right direction for how to set up the wiring for this, i would really appreciate it. i've wired up a few Class D amps in the past 8-9 years but i've never really dealt with the old school class a/b stuff. i've asked lots of questions about this amplifier in the past but neglected to ask about the separate fan wire..

thanks so much for any help i really do appreciate any advice or ideas. thanks!

Run a relay and wire as such.

You can mount the relay with your amp and use it's power and ground to power the relay.

Wire your remote to the 85 pin as well as the amp

pin 86 ground to the amp ground

run a wire from amp power with 5 amp fuse to pin 30

run pin 87 to the red wire to the fan

85 remote
86 ground
30 power
87 fan

when you power your deck your amp will turn on and the relay will turn on powering the fan.

The red wire does not run the fan. The fan is automatic based on the internal temperature of the amp.

The red wire is supposed to to go IGN, same as the red on your deck. Why? It was a way for Pioneer to avoid turn on noise back in the day. Most people just tie the red into the blue and supply both with the remote on lead from the deck. This works fine.

great answers! thanks for the info

sooo say if i ran the red wire and the blue wire off the deck's remote wire, would it be too much if i ran my 2XS's remote in off of the same deck remote wire?

also about my second question, what would be a good way to run my 18ga 1amp fused power wire to my 2XS? would i need a distro block with 3 outputs or could i tie it in with one of the 8ga wires coming out?

i can't say i've ever hooked up any more than 1 amp at a time but the members of this site have lots of great advice for guys like me to learn from and pass on to others as we learn. thanks it's appreciated as always!

The deck's remote lead should power up the 2XS as well.

For the power wire for the 2XS, for sure you can tag it off one of the 8ga outputs. I often piggy back the power/ground/remote for a crossover right off the amp inputs.

Well,, What the **** does DUKK know anyways,,, J/K

If the red wire did control the fan, the way I explained it, it would work, but since it doesn't then it won't, so don't, have a nice day.!!!

I used to have 2 of those, gmh200's, one on each sub. One was stolen, gave the other to my son-in law.
It will work fine with the red and blue both hooked up to the remote.
I took a tap off my fused distribution bloock with an inline fuse holder for each of my devices that need power and another for the relay for the remote turn on.
You don't want to use the remote to turn on more than 2 devices, so use a relay.

back from the dead but...

my local audio shop suggested one of these, it's a Directed 55000B "remote power adapter" that delays the remote turn on signal for multiple pieces of equipment...

(LINK) DEI 55000B Remote Power Adapter BRAND NEW (Directed 55000-B)

apparently this could eliminate the "pop" when the amp turns on and put less load on my deck's remote wire as well, possibly eliminating the need for a relay?

just figured i'd ask opinions first before i shell out $30 and having to go back to return it.

thanks for any input on this
