Fuse question

Hey everyone, I'm trying to do my first car audio setup and had a question related to fuses. I'm going to be running 2 amps. First one is 4ch and second one is the mono for subs.

In the amp manuals it tells me to run a 40A fuse close to the battery and in the other amp's manual it tells me to run a 50A fuse next to the battery. My question is how big of a fuse should I run to support the two amps.

Also I'll be running a fused distribution block so which fuses should I use in the 3 locations?

Thanks in advance.

Put a 90 amp main fuse as close to the battery as is reasonable, usually within 18 inches, and run a 40 amp and 50 amp fuse each at the distro block for the respective amps. Use at least 4 guage wire from the battery to the distro block.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using 4GA from battery to distro block and then 8GA to amps which are 1feet and 4feet away from distro block.

Where could I get those specific fuses from? I could only find the 30A and 60A ones at futureshop and best buy.

If one Amp requests a 40A fuse, and the other a 50A fuse, you should be going with a little more than the larger value... ie. 60 or 70A fuse. Your in-amp fuses should save them from any internal problems, but a joint problem will cut the total power before they fry. How much power is each one using? It may be benificial just to run two lines.

I would error on the side of caution when using fuses, using the size that the maunfacturer spec's or one size smaller ensures you will not end up with a fried amp.
