Amp problems

I recently installed a sony xplod 4 chanel amp. It pushes 50rms.. which is alright.
the problem is:
I have it running to speakers that are 75RMS, Is that a problem?
The amp has this auto-shut-off when it supposedly overheats.. and seriously I listen to music.. quieter than what my deck can power and the amp will shut off.
I've been moving the amp all over the place to get a good airflow and I'd say right now the airflow couldn't be better unless it mounted it on my roof. I'm also concidering mounting it on a ten foot rope and dragging on the highway to see if it helps the damn things performance.

should I get a D class so it won't overheat as much? or is it just the X-plod.
More power? 100 RMS?

are you assuming that the amp is overheating because it shuts off or have you touched it and burned your hand?

What amp and speakers do you have? model #s

Thing is is that the amp shuts off and all my music stops some times for 10 minutes! that's ridiculous!
It's wired to an 8 gage..
The amp Is:SONY XM-4S (50W RMS)
Component set: Apline SPX-177R (75 RMS)

side note: one tweeter is broken because I'm stupid.. and one midrange is in the shop)
so I'm only running two speakers! and like I said it isn't pounding super loud.. a boombox could match it.. anything can match it..

my speakers aren't wired together.. If that's what you're asking, they all have their own circuit coming from the amp.

In a previous post you mentioned not having the crossovers hooked up, Correct?
so I have to assume you have one driver connected to each output (4 channel) Correct?
Is the sub running off this amp as well? or do you have a separate amp for the sub? or do you even have a sub?

(trying to understand how you have everything wired)

When you remove speakers from some types of component sets, it will reduce your resistance to the Amp. If you take out the tweeter or woofer, then that amp channel powering the crossover probably just went from 4Ohm to mabe 2.5. If your sony amp isn't 2 ohm stable, it'll heat up REAL fast, and quit on ya.

Try making a complete set from one crossover and use one channel. Guarantee it's 4ohms and it shouldn't burn out.
