I wouldn't paint the rear window. Put something on that is removable such as lots of tint, or vinyl like suggested. It would be less of a pain in the future when you try to change up or sell the veh.

Yeah, why not just tint it instead of spraying it?

Yeah, tint the windows... a van with blacked out rear windows with spraypaint, kind of reminds me of vans pediphiles frequently drive around...

hehee...

Nope, my rear windows were already factory tinted very dark. But not dark enough, shine a flashlight through, and you can see no problem. This was not acceptable anymore, as my gear is visible through the back.

So I painted 'em until no sunlight passes through at all. Resale value means nothing, the van is a '95 with 405,000 km's now. It's in excellent shape, no damage, little rust, runs tickety-boo, burns no oil, drives straight, etc. etc. But it still has 405,000!!! Heck, give the thing a nice custom paint job and you still wouldn't be able to sell it for more than a $1000...

I'm even thinking of tinting over the already factory dark tinted glass on the sliding door, to get it darker. Or maybe just install some sort of blind or drapery that can be closed at night...

teamaerostar2 drives a Ford Aerostar. Sorry, but being an Aerostar, it's gotta be ten years old minimum, it's worth next to nothing by now due to it's age, let alone condition, just like my own van. Black those windows out, tape it off so you do a nice job, but don't be scared of blacking them out. If you do ever resell the vehicle, the only one that'll buy it is some contractor that needs a cheap van. He/she will not care that the rear windows are blacked out.

not to mention that it would only take a razor scraper and about 30 minutes to clean them up, and back to original condition... That is if you do a good enough job on masking the window, so the pain only goes on glass...

That's pretty ghetto, but whatever works for you... I'd even try that spray on tint before tremclad, but thats just me.

Thanks for all the advice guys but i went ahead and painted the "lemans" windows. it looks good and I am going to add a rear view 12v cam and small monitor in the near future.
That should keep them off my back.

Hey

So in B.C. could you get away with drivers & passengers rear view cameras instead of mirrors? There are some pretty good color/nightvision ones available. I've been thinking of doing that, when I have time since I already have an IR flood "light" in the back.

I had the rear window tinted to 5% in one of my early cars. Real pain to learn to drive in but not too bad once you get used to not using the rear view mirror.

hmmmmm that would be cool but man that would be hard to get used to.
but i don't think that you could get away with it as the law states that the driver and passenger windows have to be clear. anything behing the b pillar.
