yeah chasing them down was a bad idea, a guy in my town is currently in jail for chasing someone down who stole his truck during a test drive, the cops set up a spike belt, and he accidentally hit and killed a cop...

also about the cousin, I would confront him, but not beat him, he didn't steal the stereo, just say, i noticed so and so from your work triing to steal my radio....

You are worried about how the family would react to you beating him up? Imagine how the family would react if he would have died in a car accident due to you chasing him. Play it smart dude, I know you are a smarter person than what I have read above.

hence the fact once we entered into city limits i stopped and went home. As far as the police what do i tell them " 2 guys wearing white Tshits and black pants tried to rip my car off?" like honestly i see what u are saying MR2 but the police dont come for a half an hour here for anything unless urgent!

and doing time in jail for assault with a weapon, having a police record, and possible travel restrictions is worth saving your car audio?

I too would have confronted them, taken a camera picture, followed them to there car and taken a picture of that also...i would have stopped at chasing them, and were you not worried they might be armed? there is a youtube video of 2 guys in a truck chasing down a guy in a porshe, he leads them to a dead-end street, they get out with a baseball bat in hand, he gets out with a gun, and starts shooting...

see I can agree with Ayze, I would probably do something totally irrational, but on the other hand!! I would probably let them take it as I have FULL insurance and its not worth the headaches of getting arrested!! Luckily no one touches my car, I have a really good alarm(2way) and my car is not very far from my window! I would like to say that the first thing I would do is call the cops, but im almost certain in the heat of the moment, it would be the last thing on my mind!

I know all too well how it feels to catch someone doing this. Being in car audio for 21 years now has led me to some rather interesting circumstances. That said, if you choose to take the law into your own hands, be prepared for the consequences. Had you actually taken that hammer to a guy, had you considered what could have happened if they had a firearm? What if they disarmed you and used the hammer on you? What if you did assault them (Aggraved Assault with a Weapon and this is a Criminal Code of Canada offence), this would equal a stay in jail, a criminal record for the rest of your life (there goes any future job prospects), never mind what happened to the guy you hit (brain injury, broken face etc..... = lawsuit that something tells me you would be unable to pay).

Again, you are smarter than this dude, I know you are. There is one thing to be caught in the heat of the moment and I think we all understand that. I deal with the heat of the moment 4 nights a week and trust me it is not a position that one can easily step into. The police are a busy bunch of people and I hate to say it but theft of a car stereo is on the low end of the totem pole as far as response time goes. If the call had come in from say a neighbour awoken by the sounds of a fight and the neighbour said to the 911 operator that someone is taking a hammer to someone in the driveway across the street, you can be guaranteed that the police are on their way right now and will exit their vehicles with firearms drawn. Is that a position that you want to be in? Again, think smart, I know you are.

EDIT: for the record, I send on average of 2 people a week to jail for various assault causing bodily harm charges, being drunk in public etc. I have sent a person to jail for pulling a knife on me (that post was made here on the forum in the Stolen section as well). I know all too well the in the heat of the moment, no bs'ing around with that.

mr2 i honestly agree with alot of what u say and i kno it is truth and reality, and the hammer was just in case they had weapons, i would not have used it unless i had to.Im not the kinda guy who enjoys beating people (Ive been boxing since i was 10.... so i doubt i need a weapon.).And from a legal stand, had they took my shit the cops would have told me the chances of catching them are slim to none..... but no i would not have beat them over the head with a hammer even while enraged unless they pulled a crow bar on me, i would have done a good old fist fight.

Install a video security camera at your home where the car is parked, and put a little sign inside the car saying "Smile twits , Your on Candid Camera !".
